Saving Money Can Be Fun

Learning to save money is easily the hardest thing for most people to do. We are a culture of immediate gratification, so we don’t like money to sit in our pockets too long. Fortunately, most businesses offer retirement savings accounts, so employees never miss the money that is saved. Yet, saving for a rainy day or a vacation seems to be almost impossible for many. With a few creative investments, saving money can be fun. Here are a few ideas.

Coupons
If you don’t normally use coupons, then give it a try. Whatever you save with each trip to the store can be set aside for a rainy day. This will help your grocery spending and give you a way to save. You’ll probably get addicted to the game and be surprised at just how fast you financed that big trip.

Romance
This can be a great way to save money and keep your relationship healthy. Set prices for various displays of affection. For instance, make your partner invest 25 cents for every kiss. If you tell one another, “I love you,” toss 50 cents in the piggy bank. Maybe a romantic dinner is worth $10. The more romance you pour on, the more you can save.

If I had a dime
We’ve all used the expression, “If I had a dime for every time (fill in the blank), I’d be rich.” O.K.! Put that dime in a piggy bank! You won’t be so annoyed if you’re really saving that money. If your kids annoy you, congratulate them on helping finance the next family vacation.

Loose Change
Every day, put your loose change in a piggy bank or jar. Let that money add up. You might be surprised at how much is there once you take it to the bank and cash it in.

These are a few fun ways for saving a little extra money. Just because the economy is tough doesn’t mean you have no money to save. You just have to get creative and do it.
